LOCAL SEO & AI SEARCH / FREE HOW-TO GUIDE

WordPress SEO Checklist for Beginners

SEO starts with making a site understandable to people and crawlable for search engines. WordPress can make this easier, but plugins do not substitute for strong information architecture or useful pages. Audit a small number of important URLs first.

THE SHORT VERSION

What you will accomplish

A WordPress SEO checklist for indexing, titles, internal links, Core Web Vitals, structured data, and quality content. By the end, you should have an owner-reviewed checklist you can apply to your own business. The tutorial is free; any implementation by Mandile SEO is a separate paid service.

Step-by-step tutorial

01 / 05

Check crawlability and indexing

Open your site's robots.txt and check whether development noindex flags remain. Add the property to Search Console, inspect key page URLs and submit the XML sitemap. Verify canonical URLs point to the intended address and that internal links do not create dead ends.

02 / 05

Rewrite titles around search intent

Give each important page a distinct title and heading describing the question or service. Write an accurate meta description rather than repeating keywords. Avoid using multiple near-identical pages for nearby cities; each local page should serve a materially different purpose.

03 / 05

Make content useful and connected

Write service details, pricing constraints, process, examples and FAQs that customers genuinely ask. Link logically between related articles and services using meaningful anchor text. Update outdated dates and claims; accurate information matters more than an arbitrary word count.

04 / 05

Improve performance and accessibility

Compress hero images, reserve image dimensions, limit unnecessary scripts and check mobile Core Web Vitals. Use descriptive filenames and alt text where informative. Check contrast, keyboard access and semantic heading order. Test a real device and a throttled connection.

05 / 05

Treat schema and plugins as configuration

Use an SEO plugin consistently and avoid duplicate LocalBusiness or Article markup from multiple systems. Validate structured data against visible content; do not invent reviews, ratings or offers. Maintain updates and backups so security changes do not break indexing.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving noindex enabled after launch
  • Installing overlapping SEO schema plugins
  • Creating dozens of thin city pages
  • Publishing unverified ratings or FAQs in JSON-LD

Frequently asked questions

Will installing an SEO plugin improve rankings by itself?

No. It assists with technical settings; ranking depends on many factors including relevant content and competition.

Do I need schema on every page?

Use types that accurately describe each page. Invalid or duplicative markup can confuse implementation and does not guarantee rich results.
